I checked the logs and I didn't see a message about the server name already
existing on network. The only other message that was of any importance to
me was a 3013 RDR message - saying the redirector timed out request to a
server (which happens to be the WINS server).

It definitely sounds like a WINS problem.

Rule that I always follow: never make a static WINS mapping unless you
absolutely have to.

Do you see anything in your event logs showing a message about this server
name already exists on the network?

If you find that then it is for sure WINS.

Yes, we do use WINS. No, there's not a static mapping for this server.
Should there be?

When I try to browse the network, I do not see any of my other servers.
And, although this server is a member of the domain, I do receive a message
when I log in that there is no domain controller for this domain.

I will try what you suggested, but I can't do it now. If I shut down the
server, none of my users will be able to access our Intranet. I'm going to
try it at lunchtime. Thanks.

Can you browse the network in network neighborhood?
It is possible you are not logging on to the domain.
Some times this issue will arise if you have a WINS problem.
I have seen this before. Do you have a static WINS mapping for this server?
Do you even use WINS?

IF so try this.

Shut down the server.

Open up WINS and look through the database for the server name. Delete all
instances. If you have more then one WINS server check the others too for
this server name and delete it. Once you confirm they are all gone fire up
the server and see if you get the same result.

If you don't use WINS then disregard all of that.

When we try to map to our web server (NT4, sp6) we receive the following
message:

Mapped network drive could not be created because following error occurred:
No logon servers available to to service logon request.

Then, when I look at the Event Viewer it says:

No domain controller was available to validate your logon. A domain
controller could not be contacted. You have been logged on using cached
account information. Changes to your profile since you last logged on may
not be available.

A couple of MS KB's mention the problem may be in an ethernet switch. That
the Spanning Tree Algorithm should be disable. Then another KB says that
the spanning tree portfast setting SHOULD be enabled (which it is). We have
Cisco switch.

The other thing that confuses me is that I can map to other servers without
a problem. Also, this has recently become a problem. It was working at one
point.

I need help. Any help at all would be appreciated.

Thanks
