Suggestion:
Anything you type in the workgroup name field on a legacy workstation
will create a 1Eh record

Check the WINS database for matching names 
As far as the goofy characters NetBIOS only understand certain
characters maybe those are characters that it doesn't know

You guys tired of me yet?

While working on WINS and browsing items, I came across domain names
that
seem invalid while browsing via Network Neighborhood. I copied a
screenshot
here:

Any idea why we might have listings like that? How would they get to be
like
that? UNIX boxes would report nonstandard characters, would they? They
have
been around for some time (at least a couple years) and it seems there
are
more now than a year or two ago.
