We used to have a lot of that. A part of our used Lantastic servers and that
is what we found to be the cause. They would regiters these crazy names as
1c records in WINS. It was a long time ago but and I don't remember too much
about it but that may get you started.

You guys tired of me yet?

While working on WINS and browsing items, I came across domain names that
seem invalid while browsing via Network Neighborhood. I copied a screenshot
here:

Any idea why we might have listings like that? How would they get to be like
that? UNIX boxes would report nonstandard characters, would they? They have
been around for some time (at least a couple years) and it seems there are
more now than a year or two ago.
