Mostly just asking, but we still have weird non-critical name resolution
issues. I have a server that I can't add to my MMC ("Computer \\Server1
cannot be managed, the network path was not found") nor can I monitor
services with my Host Monitor program. It is my local DHCP server (W2KSP3)
and has no other function. It does hand out IP addresses, I can ping and VNC
(remote control) the machine. NBTSTAT -a \\Server1 gives me the same stuff
WINS shows, but trying the UNC \\Server1\C$ tells me "the network path is
not found". Has to be a Windows Networking thing...

I've never run into an issue where I turned off the DHCP client service.

If you use fixed IP addresses then the argument could be made that the DHCP
Client Service, as an unused service could be turned off. From a
troubleshooting perspective -- do you get a DHCP lease, or do you end up
with an APIPA address?

Are you troubleshooting a specific issue, or just asking?
