Believe me, I am pushing for one. It's ridiculous but next time they
find one of their servers turned being used for porn, pirated software
and movies, they might consider it -- it has however happened in the
past but they just live with it, from what I've been told...

Fight it. Just because they don't have one doesn't mean you can't push
for
one! I never settle for status quo if there are valid reasons for
changing
for the better, and in this case it's clear cut - you can find plenty of
documentation on firewalls being a best practice for being connected to
the
Internet.

I'm a pee-on in the big scheme of Textron but that doesn't mean I
haven't
been able to get changes implemented (slooooowly to be sure, but
still..),
so there's no reason you shouldn't be able to do the same.

If they can't justify even a $50 firewall how can they justify being on
the
'net.

That's like saying "Yah, I know the building's on fire, but I have no
control over that now."

If you don't have a firewall, you have a *serious problem*. Your
whole
network is just begging to be hacked. Fix it.
