NO NO NO

Socket '0' is legal in that it's a legal file descriptor, but it does NOT work as a 
valid descriptor on many OSes (it's a dummy).

You should be getting a valid fd - try enabling the workaround - line from 
configureextra/FREEBSD:

CPPFLAGS="-DHAVE_FILEDESCRIPTORBUG ${CPPFLAGS}"

into configureextra/LINUXredhat9
