Did you check the archives for your answer on gre and
esp?  Here is an option for searching the archives;

http://search.gmane.org (allows you to search the ntop
archives through May 2002).

The lists are called gmane.linux.ntop.devel (ntop-dev)
and gmane.linux.ntop.general (ntop).
