I think a lot has to do with the intricacies of the RH system 7.x vs. 8 vs.
9 and whether it's a fresh install, an upgrade, etc. - if somebody who
really, really understands rpms wants to take over creating them, I'll
happily post their work product. Historically, nobody will, so y'all are
stuck with me...

The ntop.spec file works for me and for lots of users - there's 18K
downloads of the ntop 2.2 rpm from SourceForge. So for most people it's
working fine!

Right now, I build on ur-tigger which is a UML Linux box hosted on Tigger
which is running RedHat 8.0. uname -a for ur-tigger shows:

Linux ur-tigger.gateway.2wire.net 2.4.19-5um #2 Mon Sep 16 15:41:15 EDT 2002
i686 unknown,

i.e. RedHat 7.3 with a 2.4.19 kernel.

Specifically

1. Maybe - depends on whether you install the rpm or from source.

2. The names seem to change depending on factors I don't really understand.
Sometimes they have the host type, others they don't.

Again, the ntop.spec file works for me to build the rpms I post @
SourceForge. That it doesn't work on other versions of RedHat is - to me -
of academic interest but irrelevant.

Ok. Note a couple of things not related to rrdtool:

1) The pcap headers are in /usr/include, not /usr/include/pcap, on a RH8
system.

2) The binary and man page don't need to be renamed from
i386-redhat-linux-ntop. They were already built as just ntop.
