Nope - that's a Ciscoism.  The 3Com technology is a roving analysis port.
Similar, but very different in some ways.

Besides, it doesn't have to be... my config looks like this (in part)


  +  3C switch +
  +------------+
        |
        | Vlan Trunk
      +---+
      |HUB|------------->NTOP (Tigger, Owl)
      +---+
        |
        |
   +-----------+
   | 3C Switch |

You can configure ntop on the router (although I don't recommend that) or
with multiple NICs to listen on multiple ports.
