Your backup software SHOULD be using a reliable protocol (TCP) and thus
handle retries etc. automatically.  If not, that's it's problem not ntop.

ntop is passive - it's listening only.  As long as ntop's dropped packets
are essentially random, the data is usable to show what's happening on the
network.
