OK, I've disabled eth0, so only eth1 working with a valid ip address plugged
into a hub. No difference. I shut everything down, blew away both rrd and
ntop, redownloaded, compiled, installed and went back to original config.

Eth0 is plugged into network switch with an address of 192.168.1.45. Eth1
is plugged into hub, which only has network switch and firewall connected.

running ntop -w 192.168.1.45:3000 -i eth1 -u root -d

All working!!
