Acknowledgements & Upcoming Events & Dates Easter holiday: April 19-22 (inclusive). No classes. Earth week assembly: April 23 Staff meeting: April 24. Classes begin at 10 am. Grade 9 Geography Summative Field Trip to High Park: Friday April 26. Maytime Melodies dress rehearsals: April 29 & 30. Early school closing at 1:55 pm on each day. Maytime Melodies concerts: May 2 & 3 at 7 pm. School Council news! Our next School Council meeting will take place on Monday April 29 at 7:30 pm in room 215. Our guest will be award-winning parenting author and therapist, Sara Dimerman, who will speak to us on the topic of her new book, due to be released on May 7th: "Don't Leave, Please Go: what you (and your teen) need to know before heading to university or college": teens preparing for living away at university or college, while parental anxiety intensifies. Teens and parents feel excited about increased independence and autonomy, at not having to nag or be nagged and about taking the next big step into the "real" world. Sara will share with us what you (and your teen) need to know before heading to university or college. Please join us for a 7:30 pm sharp (we will begin this meeting with our guest speaker)! Winter Sports 2019! From Ms. Rough, North Toronto's Athletic Director Frigid temperatures challenged outdoor as well as indoor sports this winter as we played our regular and playoff season. However, more than 300 NT students kept warm being physically active during this long season from November to March, participating in: § Practices, Games, Tournaments § Intramural games: Ball hockey § Sport clubs: archery, badminton, table tennis, spikeball § Fitness: weight room workouts and our Exercise to Success program. We ended our winter season with our annual Senior Girls vs Boys Volleyball Charity Game raising money for Forests Ontario! The event was well attended with over 100 students applauding the many amazing plays. Congratulations to all teams for their successful seasons and thank you to all coaches for donating their time and effort to their athletes. Team updates: Alpine Ski & Snowboarding It was cold on the hills but there was at least an abundance of snow. Alpine City Champions! Team: 1st for Boys High School 1st Open Boys 3rd Open Girls OFSAA Champions! We had more than 10 athletes race at Ontario Finals with amazing race times! Individual: 1st Callum McCormack (GS& SL) Team: 1st Open Boys Slalom 2nd Open Boys Giant Slalom (Callum MCormack, Liam Vlaad, Fin Conacher, Macgregor Milne, Charlie Latimer) Snowboarding City Championship Team: 3rd overall, Individual 1st & 3rd place OFSAA: 4 athletes represented North Toronto at the Ontario Finals Basketball Sr. Boys: With highly skilled veterans leading the way, the team made it to the Regional Semi-Finals. Jr. Boys: Between tournaments and league games, the boys had many opportunities to develop their skills during their 26 games season! Highlights: placing first at the Hoopdome and Churchill tournaments and achieving a 10 game winning streak! Curling In total, we had 8 teams of students at the rinks skipping and sweeping at the recreation or competitive level. We had many newbies out to learn with the help of the veteran senior students. NT had two first places finishes: The Girls Competitive team won the South Regional Finals! The Coed Curling team won the Division B level Regional Finals Hockey (Boys) It was a busy season as NT was fortunate to have enough coaches, organizers and players to support 2 teams this year! Highlights included playing tournaments and the A Team placed 3rd place in the regular season and made it to the South Region Semi Finals. NT lost a tough game against the defending City Champs by one goal. Hockey (Girls) Similar to the boy's team, the girl's team progressed to the Semi-Final game after winning against Leaside. In the Semi-Final game, we lost to the defending and OFSAA rep team. Highlights: we had a range of players from grades 9-12 with all abilities and experiences which makes for a supportive and fun environment amongst the team even with the push to be competitive within our sport. Swimming It was a great season filled with lots of fast races and personal best times. Regional: Congratulations to the OPEN Girls Team winning the Regional Championship! OFSAA : Seven swimmers represented NT at the Ontario Finals The team is looking forward to being back at the NTMCC for practices next year. Volleyball (Girls) Senior: The girls had a perfect season (0 losses) and won both the MacDonald & Northern tournaments. Congratulations to the Senior Girls for winning the South Regional Championship! Placed 2nd in the City Finals Junior: Regional Semi-Finalists Winning the Northern tournament was a memorable experience! Even though this cold weather continues, spring has sprung at NT and our teams are already practicing, racing and competing in games outside! Come out and cheer on our rugby, ultimate, archery, table tennis, soccer, track, beach volleyball, softball and baseball teams.
