During operation it was incredibly quiet. They declined my request to reboot it to see how loud the startup is though.....

Probably will run your power bill way up and be noisy I would guess. I have a couple Dell Precision engineering workstations under my desk. They're very quiet and have the memory/cpu capacity. I add four or six SATA spindles RAID10 and that delivers the IOPS for the VMs. Reasonably inexpensive too in the grand scheme of things.
