I got mine and set it up at home. I kept having issues with it stopping
passing traffic to my laptop. Tried various channels, but kept happening. I
haven't looked at it much after that.

Subject: RE: [NTSysADM] Meraki MR12 review

Thanks for this, it confirms much of what I love/dislike about the MR12. I
*adore* the platform. Not so sure I'm in love with my MR12.

I also received the MR12 from the same promotion, and would echo the signal
strength issues. They actually RMA'ed my first free device because I got one
bar hovering over the unit, but the replacement isn't much stronger. The
support rep I dealt with on the RMA said there was a 'bad batch' floating
around but who knows if that's the case.

I didn't test it with iDevices but I do have a pile of Dell XPS ultrabooks that
hate it but love the ancient WRT I have set up nearby.

The setup & management utilities are excellent, I wish I could run our Cisco
WLCs and APs using the same tools ... and frankly wouldn't be shocked to see
WLCs disappear in favor of the Meraki approach. Or at least an IOS update to
the autonomous APs that let them check in in a limited fashion to a Meraki
cloud account, but that's perhaps wishful thinking on my part.

I just wish it broadcasted a stronger signal, I placed it at a 'real' client
site for testing (told them it was an experiment) and it's just not as strong
as the consumer APs they own and I suspect from a price/performance standpoint
I'd need so many more of them that I'd still end up with a cheaper AP1xxxN
solution from Cisco with either autonomous or lightweight + WLC solutions.

But maybe my RMA replacement also came from the 'bad batch'? if that's true at
all.

Okay there is enough wanting this so I will try to post it to the list. ASB
was kind enough to review my thoughts and I have included his comments and my
responses. I just wish the Meraki did not have a continuing licensing fee on
their devices as I think they are bringing important extensions to the Wireless
Router market. From their marketing person the device will stop working when
the license expires. Be that as it may attached is my review. I would like to
hear back on any other reviews.

Thank you Andrew Baker and Greg Sweers for your comments and assistance.
