They probably thought they were being clever - making sure the print
job was going to a printer with the right paper stock, or that the job
being printed was going to a printer high speed enough for such a
large job, or was going to the printer closest to the user so to make
it easier to go and get, or to be sure it printed out to a printer
away from "prying" eyes - I can come up with all sorts of reasons.

None really valid, of course. :-)
