My assumption/hope is that when I get the usb cd drive I can use the XP installation disk , get to recovery console and fix what is failing, otherwise i'll do a parallel or reinstall.
I'm no longer in front of the computer, so i don't remember the rest of the parameters, what I do remember specifically is NOT SEEING inaccessible boot device . I left them with the hirens USB connected and instructed not to power down, but if they do, when hiren starts to scroll down to "start xp ....." That plus the fact that they told me a bunch of popups came up before it crashed leads me to believe rootkit/corrupted boot / mbr or some other infection. Once I get it to boot normally, then I want to do the clone Jean-Paul Natola From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [NTSysADM] bsod 7b Date: Tue, 3 Dec 2013 23:10:23 +0000 What are the other parameters in the STOP message? Have you got access to any minidump files? STOP 0x7B is INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE. If you can’t boot Windows, how are you going to run Device Manager? Secondly, assuming you can get access to the Windows installation, you must start the AHCI or SATA device driver prior to placing the disk into the new machine. Windows *won’t boot* if the correct mass storage controller isn’t set to boot startup. It won’t be detected at boot time. I cant format reinstall because there is a proprietary app on it- but the goal is to correct it via recovery console and clone the disk when the new tower arrives- as the new tower will be sata (current is pata) anything to watch out for when cloning- I presume to login to current dvc mgr unistall ide controller - clone reboot and let windows find drive controller TIA and happy holidays JP
