I was being tongue-in-cheek. I’m an independent consultant. I don’t go through HR. Sometimes I go through purchasing, who tries to beat me up on my hourly rate, but not HR. ☺

A lot of businesses still consider it necessary prior to the interview process. All resumes here flow through HR before they even hit the manager’s desk. I wrote one for a gig a few years ago (which you and I discussed Web) that I didn’t end up taking… otherwise it’s pretty much word of mouth and other social interactions. What we used to call “networking”. ☺ Before we had “social graphs” and “work graphs” blah blah blah. ☺ From: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Webster Sent: Thursday, January 23, 2014 10:37 AM To: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Subject: RE: [NTSysADM] RE: IT resumes? I always tell people my most current resume is LinkedIn. I keep that up-to-date as I complete a worthy project, certification, course, speaking gig, etc. I may be lucky (or fortunate) but I rarely get asked for a resume any more. I get most gigs nowadays via networking, my blog, Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook. Only cold callers ask for a resume now.
