In my experience, using Offline Files is a hit-or-miss thing. Some people love it. Others hate it. I've seen so many instances of it performing badly that I hate using it now. So for the OP, probably worth turning it on and seeing if it does what you want. However, one of the reasons I hate it is that it seems to be so fiddly and over-complicated - learning how to reset the cache, etc. seems so unnecessarily complex.
As I said before, there are solutions such as OneDrive Pro, Citrix ShareFile, AppSense DataNow that can leverage existing storage and sync the files across multiple devices and operating systems. If you don't use Citrix or AppSense, though, there is a cost attached so the Microsoft offering would probably be your best bet.
