As J-P says, you actually have to authorize the RDS License Server and then
authorize each RDS license pack. They DO get installed.

If your reseller will do the downgrade for you - GREAT for you. CDW won't. :)

you need to "activate" the TS license server online , this is (AFAIK) the only
"enforced" licensing in MS

If you want, ping me offline I'm an authorized reseller

Good warning, thanks. I wonder if my reseller might handle that for me...

I'm guessing I'm wrong in the assumption that TS CALs don't actually get
installed? Kind of like how you don't actually install normal user CALs?

Do you actually get a product key for the TS CALs, install them, and activate
them?

Be prepared to spend too much time on the phone with VLSC to get THAT sorted...

The last time I got downgrade RDS CALs for a customer, my time getting the
downgrade from Microsoft cost them more than the CALs did from CDW...

Perfect. I've done that before. Forefront CALs for about $15 each.

I'm guessing the RDS CAL has downgrade rights to 2003?

If you already have an volume license then you do not have to purchase 5, if
you do not have VL
what you can do is purchase 2 RDP cals and 3 of the cheapest items available
to make your initial 5.

I think I'm in a position where I might need to purchase RDS/TS CALs from MS.
Never done it before, and I have no idea how it works.

Overview:
There is ONE app in my company that won't work on Windows 7+. It will only
work on XP or Server 2003. Darn it.

My thoughts: The App runs fine on Server 2003, which is supported for another
year. I can install the App on a new Server, and give TWO users Remote Desktop
access to that machine, and they can use the app there.
Great.
But I have no idea how TS licensing works. I'm pretty sure I need to license
this, since it's not for remote administration. Right?
Any input on how this works? Do I have to buy in 5 packs like a lot of other MS
cals? Ideally, I could just buy 2 CALs. Open License program.

Thanks!
