I was trying to connect from a 2008r2 full gui server , using both computer management and server manager, are you saying to install RSAT on the 08 server?

You are correct that there are ‘services and features’ missing from Core. That’s why they call it Core. Pretty much all the GUI stuff is unavailable. Generally, I add the RSAT to a desktop in the domain and can access the servers from that computer. Any feedback is appreciated. TIA
