Title: RE: 2000 Server SP2 Blue dump with 512mb memory

Maybe try it with NT 4.0 instead.  At least you'll know if it's a w2k problem.  And I did some checking.

--------------------------------
the folks at http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1291&p=16 rated that board pretty high, so maybe they have an idea.

------------------------------
Here's one possibility:
<snip> Seems that Mushkin, Crucial, and perhaps other memory/RAM manufacturers, sometimes set the SPD on their 2-2-2 RAM to default at 3-3-3. They do this for reasons listed here. Bottom line is that you might need to go into the BIOS & manually set your CAS2 RAM (if you have CAS2 RAM) to 2-2-2. I know this is true for the Mushkin rev1.5 sticks, but I think the SPD for rev2 is set to 2-2-2 by default. Mushkin says they will set the SPD on their new rev3 sticks to 2-2-2.

Memory Selection and Sizing Issues
For 815 chipset based motherboards, the SDRAM memory must have SPD (Serial Presence Detect) with correct data in the EEPROM. For 440GX/440BX/810 chipset based motherboards, our BIOS can auto size memory to work around non-SPD or incorrect SPD SDRAMs.

For 815 chipset based motherboards, it is extremely difficult for BIOS to auto size memory for non-SPD or incorrect SPD SDRAMs.

ECC Support?
815 chipset based motherboards with SDRAM do not support ECC. Using ECC SDRAM modules will result in non-ECC operation.

PC133 or PC100?
The 815 chipset supports a 133/100 MHz FSB. However, the memory speed is synchronized with CPU's Front Size Bus speed.  Therefore, the FSB of the CPU will determine the memory speed.

MOBO = Asus CUSL2-c (supports 512)
Processor = Intel 1 GHz
Mother board counts all 512 and starts to load 2k server = DUMPS,
2k server will load with 256mb.  This is a brand new box so we've tried
different mother board, processor, ram, drive, cd-rom , EVERYTHING to get
it to install.  Only successful install was with 256mb ram. After that
when we put in 2nd chip it craps out.  We remove chip and all is well.
We've flashed bios on adaptec card, mother board, we've ran diagnositcs on
every component.
I know this has to be issue with 2k and 512mb on the 815e chipset.
However was wondering if someone else had run into this.  Other than that
I satisfied with all we've done to note this as an incompatibility
problem.
