I certainly am not advocating leniency for the people who committed
these
horrendous atrocities. (I do not call them "crimes" because that term
does
not carry sufficient magnitude.) Personally, I want the perpetrators,
and
their backers, dead.
However, I have seen many people call for the general destruction of
various countries, ethnic groups, and/or religions, including -- often
by
explicit statement -- innocent people.
I find it sickening and disturbing that, so soon after an attack on
our
ideals of freedom, justice, and equality, that people are advocating the
exact same behavior on our part.
If that is the best we can do, then the terrorists really have won.
