yeah, used to be you paid a premium for LARGER ... a year or so ago, I went
shopping for a laptop with a 12" screen, small enough to fit in my
motorcycle saddlebags/trunk, ended up with a nice Toshiba unit... virtually
the same feature for feature, except for screen size, I could have had an HP
with 17" screen for over $500 LESS ... arghhhh !

Hard to believe these things are more expensive than a regular laptop.

Oh sure. I've had this ability on just about any laptop I've owned. Just
set the screen size to be larger than the max pixels of the physical
display. Voila: Windows lets your "scroll".

This always seemed to be device manufacturer specific, but perhaps I'm
mistaken on that point.

I remember seeing something in the past on a laptop where you could define
your resolution and desktop area differently. If the desktop area was bigger
it would scroll. Alas long ago, don't remember where I saw it.

Sounds like its definitely worth the effort then. I've yet to see a
non-manufacturer supplied driver do this - but if you find one, please post
back with the details.

yeah, I've only been in touch via email with this guy, hope to have it in my
hands to see for myself. Good guy, but not proficient at all with
computers, but this summer he fixed my A/C compressor for a handshake
instead of the hundreds $$ that the other company estimated. Figured I'd
post up here in case anyone had one of these Sony UMPCs already.

This is usually functionality of the display driver.

Greetings !

I've got a friend that just picked up one of those UMPCs (a Sony) with a
4.5" screen, running Vista 'business' on it. Anyone know offhand of a
utility that will let him configure a larger 'virtual screen' and let him
use the 4.5 display to scroll around this larger screen ?

Thanks in advance
