That’s besides the point Mike.  I understand what Leif is saying, it’s one of 
the most irritating things about Windows Update to me.  Used to be, that when 
you had an update available, the icon would show in the taskbar, and stay there 
until you did something with it.  Now, it sometimes shows when an update is 
being downloaded, and then disappears.  Extremely annoying, imo.

Hi Folks,

 

In my lab I have a workstation that was sitting turned off at a shelf for 3 
months. The other day I needed it and started it up again.

 

Now, when I want to turn it off, it is showing me that there are pending 
updates that will be installed when I click on “Shut off”.

 

However, there is no Update icon in the systray, so I cannot review what 
updates are pending.

 

How can I fix this? Google gives me thousands of hits on missing icon, but not 
what I am looking for.
