Leif.
I saw this on one of my machines.
Try restarting, click the link on the shutdown screen that says shutdown
without installing updates.
Boot it back up and the icon may come back and let you see what updates are to
be installed.
It may take a while for the icon to re-appear.
Good luck.
Glen.

Subject: Windows update icon missing

Hi Folks,

In my lab I have a workstation that was sitting turned off at a shelf for 3
months. The other day I needed it and started it up again.

Now, when I want to turn it off, it is showing me that there are pending
updates that will be installed when I click on "Shut off".

However, there is no Update icon in the systray, so I cannot review what
updates are pending.

How can I fix this? Google gives me thousands of hits on missing icon, but not
what I am looking for.

Happy New Year to ya'll.

Leif
