Blundering along, most of the software packages pushed out via GPO installed onto my new Vista box. The exception was Office2003. Finally finding the event logs, I see a problem with the file [system root]\system32\mapisvc.inf. The system does not have the right to update this file.
All "users" (which includes SYSTEM and ADMINISTRATORS) have only read and execute rights. Only "TrustedInstaller" has write, modify, or full rights. Furthermore, although SYSTEM is listed as the owner, I am having difficulty granting SYSTEM additional rights. After I post this, I'm going to go see if there is a local group called "TrustedInstaller" to which I can add SYSTEM, but is there any other way to get GPO-pushed installs to work? (FWIW, Firefox, AcrobatReader, and a couple of others successfully loaded via GPO). -------------------------------------- Richard McClary, Systems Administrator ASPCA Knowledge Management 1717 S Philo Rd, Ste 36, Urbana, IL 61802 217-337-9761 http://www.aspca.org ~ Upgrade to Next Generation Antispam/Antivirus with Ninja! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbelt-software.com/SunbeltMessagingNinja.cfm> ~
