Doesn't take stock market it takes priorities, like not feeling compelled to
keep up with the Jonses :-). It also depends on your definition of retirement.

I'm 45 and am "retiring" when my house is paid off in 16 years or so. Retiring
to me means working when I want to and for whom I want to. If I have to work
1-2 days/ week for income purposes but I get to pick the days and the hours
then that's retirement in my book!

Just saw this post. You were able to retire at 42? Seriously? Wow, someone must
have really done well in the stock market. I'm way jealous. I'm 45 and don't
see mysefelf retiring until my early 90's. Two daughters to put through
college.
