That's another reason I went with a variable unit, I was in the process of
virtualizing and knew I wouldn't needs as much cooling down the road.

This is also a prime opportunity to push virtualization (if you don't already
utilize the technology) as you will be able to go with smaller units, you'll
lower your ongoing heat/electrical and reduce your future hardware outlays.

+1 on the redundancy. My server room is about 12x12 and I have a 3 ton [1] air
cooled unit a 1 ton water cooled unit as a backup (normally off) and the
buildings AC.

James.

[1] Yes I know that 3 ton is too big for such a small area so I have some of
its cool air venting into a hallway also, so the compressor doesn't die.
Servers make for some heat and based on the heat generation I needed a 3 ton.

+1 on the installer, maintenance and support is crucial.

If you *need* 15 tons, I would consider TWO 8 ton units. With a single unit
it's all or nothing, and the nothing part will suck if it happens to you.

Subject: Server room cooling units

Greetings!

Currently, I have two HVAC bids regarding the expansion of our server room.
(It will seem strange to have that room below 80 degrees, and I am not kidding
with that number!).

We have two proposals and with two different units, both 15 tons. One is by
Stulz, and one is by Liebert.

Anyone care to offer their opinions/experiences/etc on the advantages one has
over the other?

Thank you...
