I see your point, and i'm not disagreeing.....but I will point out that the 
Jason Samuel post does go through copying a profile over into the default 
profile.... If that is followed, then the profile specific customizations would 
stick.

You may want to update your blog post to reflect/address this, otherwise people 
may.get the idea.that you didn't read the whole article.

 PuTTY can run from a network share, without installation.

 Ditto the SumatraPDF reader.  That's what I use on the server for those rare 
occasions when I'm on the server console and need to reference some mfg docs.

 Our "NETBIN" share is full of stand-alone utilities like that.
Update them in once place and you're done.  I wish more software was like that.
