If your not using DNS then how to you traverse subnets to get data?

If you are on networkA and need networkB but don't have an IP for it to
resolve too I don't see how your going to find it. DNS is the way to go,
WINS works if all machines register, DNS/WINS/DHCP is your set it and forget
it. Is your multi routed network setup with all static IP's and you use some
sort of broadcast to all subnets? I have seen this done with core switches
but its loud and messy

Subject: View all PCs in "entire network"

Hi Folks:

Wondering about methods to see PCs on other subnets. Each building here on
our complex is it's own subnet, and in the main building I'd like to be able
to see all PCs in "entire network".

We are currently not an Active Directory site, so PCs are not in a domain
and not registered in DNS. I'd rather not run WINS servers if I can avoid
it. I know this issue will go away once we migrate to Active Directory and
register PCs in DNS, but is there any way I can do this now? If I need to
see just one PC I can get the name via nbtstat, but that can be cumbersome.

Thanks,

Tom
