/3GB is a switch for virtual address space. It doesn't make Windows see any
more RAM. It means that for user mode processes, only 1GB of the 4GB that a
process can see, is used/reserved by the kernel.

/PAE switch doesn't do anything on Windows XP SP2 (it did before that) WRT to
enabling additional physical memory (/PAE is required to enable No Execute
support though). This is because it caused too many BSODs from poorly written
drivers.

If you want to access >4GB of RAM, your best bet is to use a 64bit OS. NOTE:
your chipset all needs to support >4Gb of address space. Some don't (e.g. the
Napa/Intel 945 chipset used by early Core 2 Duo CPUs)

Does anyone have idea how to make XP recognize 4gb Ram?

This is on a Dell OPtiplex 745 with XP Pro 32bit

I have used /PAE and /3gb in the boot.ini with no luck.

My next suggestion was upgrade to 64bit
