WDS needs AD as far as I know (interaction with dhcp etc is all stored in AD). That doesnt mean the machines it builds *have to be joined*. jlc ________________________________ From: Andy Shook [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, April 18, 2008 11:40 AM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: RE: universal imaging solution for unknown hardware
Please don’t hear me saying that I’m doubting WDS and/or you, ‘cause I’m not. Just trying to think this through, so when mgmt asks I’ve answered the questions I’m going to get beforehand. Can WDS work in a non-domain environment? These laptops are being imaged to stand alone appliances and I’m looking a server based solution and/or ripping images to bootable DVDs. The driver library is pretty cool, but adding $10-20 per image to my system cost seems like a lot, when I’ve got thousands of systems, and I don’t know what the value is (that is, how many drivers I won’t already have on the Windows image). Using WDS, it’s trivial to add new drivers to an image. Just suggesting an option. :) Regards, Michael B. The customer can’t provide an inventory list, so I feel I must cover all possible scenarios via 3rd party apps mention in my OP. Do you agree? My first thoughts are Acronis + UIU, however, I wanted to solicit some feedback from my favorite collective.
