I have found that Windows terminal server may be able to do what I want
(redirecting client scanners). Can anyone recommend a good TS email list or
forum that I can try to get help setting it up since I have yet to get it to
work.

We have an Axis unit in the office that attaches to a USB scanner. The axis
unit provides a web interface to the scanner. I'll see if I can locate the
said scanner and Axis box in a bit (we now have a xerox multifunction
printer thing now instead)

I have not seen that on any newer models of the HP scanners. I can only say
that I saw that software on the SCSI attached HP's from many years back. I
would think doing the remote share with an USB attached scanner would be
very difficult to do. If I was looking for this type of functionality I
would look at some of the SCSI or higher end USB models. All that said the
last time I even saw that software offered with a scanner was when there
were still a lot of Windows 98 systems in the market/hands of clients. I
don't remember seeing it since that time period but then I have not been
looking either.

Nope, the scanners will be on the client not the server. I found a third
party software called Remotescan but its expensive. I heard that there are
scanners that have software that comes with them that allows this but I
havent found one yet myself.

You mean have the scanner attached to a computer (RemoteComputer), RDP
into RemoteComputer from LocalComputer and scan? If so, yes. I've not
used a document scanner but I did hook up my HP Scanjet G4050 to an old
laptop and put it out of the way so I wouldn't have to listen to it or
tie up my computer as it scanned in lots of negatives. I'm unsure of
the client version though. I use VisionApp for all my RDP needs. Also,
the scanner was attached to a Windows XP Pro machine, not a server OS of
any kind.
