I love the whole remote monitoring space. The capabilities of Remote Operations Manager and SCE is awesome. I just don't think that it's a space that Microsoft should be getting in to. IMHO. That's what their partners are for. ;-) And as soon as they start wanting to off-load parts or all of my AD structure...Not a chance.

The agent basically allows a Kerberos federation to happen on a per-system basis, without punching holes in a firewall. To wax philosophical: one of the services I offer is to monitor clients servers. I give them differing prices dependent on whether I will get a "clear channel" (i.e., VPN access) to their network or whether I have to put a hardware or software agent on their premises. I don't see it any different from a Microsoft perspective...my clients are solidly in the SMB space. Granted they KNOW me and they don't know the "evil empire", but overall, the shift has already started to happen... Regards, Michael B. The user functionality pieces may have their uses for many enterprises regardless of size. -----Original Message----- From: Michael B. The little agent that they install for Microsoft online to allow single-signon for Outlook, OWA, SharePoint, OCS - it rocks. It's getting good play in enterprises of all sizes. (Crap I hope that isn't NDA.) Regards, Michael B. Perhaps they can make a go of it in the enterprise though. -----Original Message----- From: Rod Trent [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, June 20, 2008 2:58 PM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: RE: Spiceworks 3.0 Released Tough to fight since MS is promoting that doing so helps companies 'go green' by offloading unnecessary electricity and carbons. Because its being touted as such, particularly to the gov't agencies, there's no turning back. -----Original Message----- From: Tim Vander Kooi [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, June 20, 2008 3:53 PM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: RE: Spiceworks 3.0 Released And those of us on the "inside" are fighting them tooth and nail on it. :-) -----Original Message----- From: Rod Trent [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, June 20, 2008 2:46 PM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: RE: Spiceworks 3.0 Released It’s a give and take thing. Spiceworks has always been that way. You just have to figure out whether or not you trust their security stream. In the future, you'll actually see more companies doing this. Microsoft is in deep for SaaS functionality for all of their products. They are working on "Live" versions of things like ConfigMgr and OpsMgr now. -----Original Message----- From: Jeremy [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, June 20, 2008 3:44 PM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: re: Spiceworks 3.0 Released Is it just me, or does the Spiceworks TOS and the fact that they send data back to their parent server make this seem to be a really BAD idea to be running on your network? ~ Upgrade to Next Generation Antispam/Antivirus with Ninja! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbelt-software.com/SunbeltMessagingNinja.cfm> ~ ~ Upgrade to Next Generation Antispam/Antivirus with Ninja! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbelt-software.com/SunbeltMessagingNinja.cfm> ~ ~ Upgrade to Next Generation Antispam/Antivirus with Ninja! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbelt-software.com/SunbeltMessagingNinja.cfm> ~ ~ Upgrade to Next Generation Antispam/Antivirus with Ninja! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbelt-software.com/SunbeltMessagingNinja.cfm> ~ ~ Upgrade to Next Generation Antispam/Antivirus with Ninja! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbelt-software.com/SunbeltMessagingNinja.cfm> ~ ~ Upgrade to Next Generation Antispam/Antivirus with Ninja! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbelt-software.com/SunbeltMessagingNinja.cfm> ~ ~ Upgrade to Next Generation Antispam/Antivirus with Ninja! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbelt-software.com/SunbeltMessagingNinja.cfm> ~ ~ Upgrade to Next Generation Antispam/Antivirus with Ninja! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbelt-software.com/SunbeltMessagingNinja.cfm> ~ ~ Upgrade to Next Generation Antispam/Antivirus with Ninja! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbelt-software.com/SunbeltMessagingNinja.cfm> ~
