Okay. Google fu doesn't work well after 1900 hrs for me, so I'm posting this
to all of you.

I have a buddy of mine who, in his lack of wisdom, took out his dual core
Intel, and put in a quad core Intel. And tossed out the old CPU. After this
genius move, his computer boots about 1/5th of the time, and when he does
get into Windows Vista, Digital Cable device registration app crashes, along
with some other applications (I'm not there, and he can't remember.)

Is there a workaround to get this fixed, or is he stuck reinstalling
Windows?

OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit

His 64-bit copy on the same machine, on other hard drive, doesn't boot at
all.
