There are cheaper gigabit switches out there that advertise the
abilities the OP requires, but the HP 1800 series is the only one that
doesn't have some stupid asinine limitation:

Linksys "managed" switches can't be managed if you don't have IE6, and
*if* it has a console port it can only be used to set the IP #

Dell "web managed" switches (the PowerConnect 2700 series) won't let you
assign an IP # to any VLAN other than VLAN1

etc.
