Web based vs web and console. Far larger backplane and throughput(1800
does not even mention the exact amount but it was much lower when I
called presales to check), far more robust controls with VLAN's,
routing, etc. No layer 3 IP routing on the 1800

The 1800 does the essentials and is solid, the 2800 is just much more
capable and robust.

Wow, that is crazy cheap, looking at the product page at HP's site, it
looks
pretty capable. I have to wonder now, what makes that different then the
2824 switch that we just paid ~$650 for, refurbed?

As far as I can tell, just the 4 mini-GBIC ports is the difference,
anyone
know what else is different/missing between the 2824 and 1800?

HP 1800, cheap as heck and solid. One of the few features it provides is
just what you need.

~380.00 for 24 ports. Crazy...

I'm looking for a simple, reliable, fairly inexpensive gigabit ethernet
switch. Rack mountable, with 24 ports. The only feature I need is to
be
able to monitor traffic through each port.
