no dumb switches.
pc(sending multicast)->3812->3870->3812->3300(mid stack)->pc(receiving
multicast)
All switches of VLan3 configured on the inbound and outbound ports.
Only the inbound port on the first 3812 is UNtagged, the rest are all
tagged. I have spare cables in place so that I could UNtag ports all
the way to the second 3812.
I have an open port on the 3812 that the 3300 stack connects to, but
eventually I need multiple endpoints for this setup so I would like to
make this work down to the 3300.

Thanks,

Do all your transit switches have knowledge of VLAN3?

Are any of the transit switches "dumb" - i.e. don't support
tagging/trunking?

Is there a Layer3 device somewhere in the transit path to perform
Inter-VLAN routing?

Subject: vlan tagging

All,

I am trying to setup a VLan for multicast traffic (VLan3). I have a
small workgroup of pcs/equipment generating the traffic into an UNtagged
port on a switch. I have then passed that traffic Tagged through the
switch stacks and aggregated links to another port in the company. The
end point is receiving the multicast traffic and is working normally on
the UNtagged VLan1 which is the normal internal traffic. However, he is
unable to ping back to the pc's in VLan3 or making connection in the
reverse direction. Is this even possible? I havn't tested this, but
would it work to UNtag him with VLan3 and then set him Tagged to Vlan1?
Will he be able to communicate to the company network?

I am using 3com switches.

Thanks,
