No issues - EXCEPT DNS.

You stated that the DHCP server assigns an IP based on the MAC address. So
both OS's will get the same DHCP lease. That's OK. However, each OS with
Different hostnames will register its name and IP in DNS. So you will have 2
different A records pointing to the same IP. Issues will only show up in
reverse DNS, where the PTR record points 192.168.1.5 to xp.domain.local and you
are trying to access 192.168.1.5 Vista.domain.local.

You will get 'access denied' errors when trying to browse shares and such.

You will need to make the Vista partition invisible to XP. XP restore points
will corrupt Vista restore points.

Subject: Question on duel OS booting

Greetings!

Workstations here are all WinXP Pro, are DHCP clients, and belong to a Windows
2003 "Native" domain.

I just happen to have unassigned space on my system drive, and I just happen to
have a Vista Business install CD (properly licensed and awaiting installation).

SO, as the DHCP client gets its lease based on its MAC address (my machine has
only 1 NIC), how might I go about installing Vista and having it function
properly in the network (without damaging the status of the alternative XP
installation)?

NO, I will NOT set it up as a VM on my desktop system - I did that once, and it
was simply offal!
