In AZ, Verizon seems to have the best coverage. I have 2 brothers-in-law that are truckers, and they each gave up their AT&T phones because of their spotty coverage. Our local neighborhood website periodically has this same discussion, and Verizon still seems to be the best bet here.

In the areas I spend the most time AT&T is very good and the local VZW folks I know seem to be pretty happy. My sister is in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and the best up there is AllTel but at their house I get AT&T coverage but my mom gets nothing from Sprint. There's good and bad areas of coverage for all vendors. Find the one that fits your stomping grounds.
