The free version is fine if all you need to do is create PDFs, which is what 99% of those who "need" Adobe Acrobat use it for.
It's worth what you paid for it if you need to go beyond that - touch up text, append one PDF to another, etc. We are that last 1% that find the free stuff unsuitable.
