I have patched v4.0 a few times as well as built multiple servers from scratch. Exported/imported policies, custom reports, exclusion lists, etc, from one server to another. Even between domains.
Fairly simple setup using a SQL database. I did hear that they decided to just build a new v4 box, rather than upgrade, prior to me being here. But, I believe that was because of old hardware.
