A very good friend of mine just got back from triple-bypass last week. It tooks his wife close to 2 years to finally convince him to see a doctor. He had been complaining about being tired. The doc tried a catheter but he had 100% blockage in one vessel and two had 50%. They also found he had had a small heart-attack a while back. Family history has a lot to do with it, too. My friends father had a heart attack at the age of 51 (he's 57) and his father's father died of a heart attack at 49. I don't know why he thought he was immune.

And, in case you are wondering about my weight, I stand 5'10" and am 209lbs. The issue is that I am diabetic and it caused constriction of some main arteries on my heart. The blockages were already there, but because those arteries became constricted it made the blockages more pronounced. Really, I have been watching my weight and have been told by my doctor that is within proper allowances. They kept questioning me in the hospital if I smoked, drank, ate fatty foods. When I told them that I didn't smoke, drank and I do watch what I eat, because I am diabetic, they could not understand it. Back in 2000, when I was diagnoses as being diabetic, I was nearly 290lbs. The diabetes took care of some of the weight, but is has been a fight to get it down to where I have it now. Now, my PSA: If you haven't had a heart stress test done, and you are feeling tired, or you think that you are feeling stressed because of work, please, go get it done. Don't wait till later. When they wheeled me back to pre-op is when I found out that I had two blockages that were on my heart and were so close together they couldn't put stints in. So, I was going to have open heart surgery on Monday. The scar on my chest is practically healed. The scare on my left leg is taking a bit longer. That scar goes just below my groin to just below my left knee. While I was in recovery I had a nurse who said that I had one of those sexy manly scars on my leg. I told her that I could have gotten a tatoo... it would still have hurt but been a lot cheaper.
