I had an Optiplex 755 (dual core CPU) that did shutdown because of overheating. The reason was a faulty sensor on the Motherboard. Since changing the motherboard the PC runs with no more problems. You can find a log in the BIOS with the reasons for the shutdown, if it is hardware related
