Had a folder full of information "disappear" A user notified me that the
folder was missing and using Shadow Copy, I went back in time to Dec 30th
and still couldn't find it, so obviously it "disappeared" before that. I
found it inside another sub-folder in the directory, but I'd like to make
sure that no one can *delete* anything, even if they have write permissions.
This folder off the "public" share holds a lot of data in a bunch of
sub-folders that would be hard to replicate if it got deleted, but needs to
be viewable to everyone. Thus, I need everyone to be able to read/execute,
but not delete, and most people don't need to be able to write anything to
the various sub-folders; it just needs to be read-only for 99.999% of my
users. J

Using what app?

If they're just copying the files via explorer, then this is doable (using
special perms). If you're using an app, especially a Microsoft Office app,
then in some cases it's not possible.

What's driving this need?

What permissions would I need to give someone to a folder on a Win2k3 server
that would allow them to put files in the folder, but not delete them or
modify them?
