Amen to that. I had one large server running 6 VM's with the office purchasing 2 licenses for standard server. The large server was running 2008 AS or ES what ever they called it. I would think if the data was housed on a SAN or NAS that would work under the licensing. Go directly to Micorsoft and get them to answer your question. I would do that 3 times just to make sure and get alll of their responses in writing.
