You could get space in anybody's NOC for a cost. With that space you could put
your own hardware and not worry about using someone else's stuff. What you're
paying for with Sungard are the DR agreements. If my server room catches fire
and my aging Data General (don't laugh) is gone, they would agree to have a
replacement from their "Pool" of hardware available to me. Same with
workstations being available. If we lose half our building, they would truck a
big trailer pod out with 50 workstations worth of space for users to work with
and in.

So, there are tons of different options you can go with from Sungard. If you're
just looking for rackspace to house your hardware at a NOC, then look
elsewhere. If you're looking for all the bells and whistles, then they might be
for you.

Good to know. I'll have to see what they can offer me, since my former boss
didn't like the idea of our data on someone else's hardware, and I have to
agree that I would prefer to have full control of the data myself, even if
there's not a lot of "proprietary" data on the Windows side of things. :)

SunGard is the company DEFINES availability, DR, and business continuity. They
had those services before anyone else in the industry.

I used them over 20 years ago for mainframe DR.

Anyone heard of SunGard? Got cold-called by them regarding their "availability"
/ data / business-continuity services and before I talk much to them, I want to
make sure they're 1) legitimate and 2) not overpriced. :)
