Well, it's pretty easy to write a small powershell wrapper to send email, and
if you were using powershell already, I'd recommend it.

But blat is easy to use, proven, and simple to integrate into the type of
process you want.

Wbadmin doesn't allow for pre- or post-backup tasks, at least as far as I know.

So....

I had considered something like that. I guess I was hoping for some way to do
it all natively.

Thanks

Put wbadmin into a script/batch file and schedule that script batch file. Use
blat to email the log file to you.

Subject: Hyper-v backup question

I do pro bono work for a small, non-profit K-8 school. They wish to finally
install their first server for the next school year, and I've set them up with
a Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 host (the free OS) with guest machines doing the
actual work. I've got everything working just fine, but I would like to know
if there is a convenient and free way to monitor the nightly backups. I've
created a backup schedule using wbadmin to write out to a second disk, but
since I'm not on site every day it would be ideal to have a copy of the backup
report emailed at the completion of each day's job. I know I can grab the
contents of the log from C:\Windows\Logs\WindowsServerBackup in a separate
scheduled task, but it would be great to have it all tied up neatly in a single
process.

Anyone have any methods for accomplishing this?

Thanks,
RS
