Depends, I use one at home, for streaming media around the house;  and
one at work as a shared drive (both are 2nd gen connected via FW 800)

as Bob said, the flexibility is great.  I cannot think of anything
else i'd recommend for home use (maybe the Drobo FS).

the one we use at work has been perfect, we only have one or two
people hitting it at a time but it is always more than fast enough
when pushing largeish  files around.
