We have a number of remote locations with their own server running Server 2008
Std/2008 Std R2. The server has a number of roles including DC, File/Print,
SCCM Secondary and it also has VMWARE server running on it with a Ubuntu VM
with MYSQL running in that. Although they run with no issues I don't like how
complicated it is.

What I would like to do is install Hyper-V and then run the 08 R2 in a VM and
run Ubuntu in a separate VM. I know that Ubuntu isn't supported but we can
live with that for now.

The other benefit I am looking for is being able to backup the site server. By
the looks of it you really need SCVMM to do this easily. Does anyone have
experience with SCVMM and how it handles backup? Ultimately it would be nice
to take a nightly or weekly backup to either place in storage on the local LAN
or even an attached USB harddrive. I like the idea of having it stored on site
as it would expedite restore time in case of a server failure.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,

James.
